Summary
Key Takeaways
Summer is a slower period with lower absolute growth across the market, so our Q3 analysis focuses on who is gaining relative share rather than overall market speed.
Top Acquirer
RackHost.hu
Rackhost tops the Acquisition Index for the 2nd quarter in a row, adding 17.4% to its portfolio in a single quarter.
Site Builders
Squarespace
Squarespace captures more than twice its fair share of new domains, and ranks #6 on the Acquirers' leaderboard.
Retention & Velocity
Cloudflare & Hostinger
Sustainable market advantage is about growing, and keeping customers. Cloudflare and Hostinger hit both leaderboards every time this year.
Market Dynamics
Sleeping Giants, Hungry Challengers
Look at who leads either list, and few are the household names of European hosting. Two distinct groups dominate:
- US and global brands making a play for Europe: Dynadot, NameCheap, Hostinger, Cloudflare and Squarespace hold 5 of the top 6 places on the Acquisition Index. On Velocity, Dynadot, Vercel, Porkbun and Cloudflare hold 4 of the top 6.
- Hyper-local midsize brands conquering a single market: RackHost in Hungary (#1 on Acquisition), LWS in France, WEDOS in Czechia, LH.pl and SEOHost in Poland. They are winning decisively at home rather than competing across Europe.
Part of this is arithmetic: a provider with a very large installed base needs far more new domains to move its share than a challenger with a fraction of the size, so the numbers play against the incumbents on both metrics. Which makes every major host that does appear on the leaderboard extra-special.
Part 1: Biggest Acquirers
Which providers win more than their fair share of new domains?
What Stayed and What Changed in Q3:
Looking at how the Acquisition Index has developed in Q3 vs Q2'26 and Q1'26, 11 operators remained across all three installments; 6 returned from Q1, while ClouDNS and OVHcloud joined for the first time.
- RackHost (nearly 5x index) holds #1 for the second consecutive quarter with the highest gross add rate (17.4%). Dynadot (4.11x) climbed to #2, followed by Hostinger, Cloudflare, and NameCheap. All five have been in this leaderboard all year.
- Closed ecosystems with site builders power 1 in 10 websites in Europe. Superficially, Squarespace looks the healthiest within this category hitting a 2.27x Acquisition Index this quarter. However, its DNS footprint overstates the site-builder audience by 5x as it's a hybrid: normal domains + optional CMS on top. We can thus classify SQSP as a "normal" operator.
- Local champions remain formidable: LWS.fr (2.18x), WEDOS Group (2.10x), LH.pl (1.97x), and SEOHost (1.93x) capture significant regional intake. DonDominio (1.5x) marks its third straight quarter on the list, while Spanish peer Arsys fell off.
- OVHCloud is a remarkable addition; it's a Top 5 Largest Domain and Hosting Provider in Europe with millions of domains under management. To grow at 1.33x your fair share is a true feat!
Methodology notes:
Acquisition Index = share of new domains / overall market share (1+x indicates more than a fair share of new demand).
Gross Add Rate = new domains in Q3 / opening domains (size vs speed calibration); quarterly vs annualized as previously.
Scope: This shortlist only c. 100 customer-facing brands with 50,000+ active domains, and excludes parking and aftermarket vendors (SedoParking, ParkingCrew, Afternic, Saw.com, Above.com, Aftermarket.pl, HongKong Di En Si Intl). All analyses cover all 19 European markets except for Rackhost (.hu only) & NameCheap (.uk only) for a balanced view.

Part 2: Fastest Growers
Who Built Net Share Through the Summer?
What Stayed and What Changed in Q3:
In Q3, six continuous performers stayed, 8 returned from Q1, and 6 names debuted on the Velocity leaderboard: Web.de, Name.com, KeurigOnline, VAS Hosting, WEDOS, and Infomaniak. However, the shape and quality of that growth isn't always equal.
Critical Velocity Insights
- GMX/Web.de ranks #1 (122.86x) due to an internal restructuring rather than organic growth. It appears to have grown by 147% in Q3, but the portfolio expansion is fueled by a mass migration from IONOS, a sister brand. We chose to keep the brand in rather than discard this growth; while unlike in this case, mass migrations across group brands are often a key signal of consolidation.
- Vercel posted a remarkable 19.3x velocity, driven by strong new registrations and inbound migrations. It misses dual-entrant status only because its nameserver portfolio sits below the 50k threshold; however, since most hosting customers rely on third-party DNS, Vercel's true European footprint is seven times larger than its NS numbers suggest.
- Migrations, aka share shift, are a primary driver of growth for Dynadot, OpusDNS & Porkbun; they aren't scoring high on Acquisition Index, but are still gaining share by consolidating domainer portfolios.
- Cloudflare achieved 18.2% net growth on a massive base of 3.2 million domains (15.13x Velocity), representing unprecedented scale compared to smaller peers.
Methodology notes:
Velocity = provider's QoQ net portfolio growth / market's QoQ growth (1.2% pan-European baseline in Q3). It captures churn and migrations that gross acquisition masks.
Scope: this analysis covers customer-facing brands with 5,000+ active domains under management.

Appendix & Attribution Standards
ShareShift proprietary scanner collects and interprets public web signals across 19 markets. Reported growth rates may reflect improvements in telemetry coverage as well as genuine market growth. Latest snapshot: September 28, 2026.
Monitors 56+M domains across European ccTLDs. Domains without public DNS are excluded as inactive. Part 1 requires 50k+ active domains; Part 2 requires 5k+. Aftermarket and parking networks are excluded.
ShareShift attributes domains based on operational name servers (authoritative DNS infrastructure). This reflects active infrastructure operations rather than simple ICANN registrar records.
